Pakistan’s fast bowlers have surged up the ICC ODI rankings, while Indian batsmen are closing in on the top spot held by Babar Azam. The ongoing Asia Cup 2023 has witnessed some significant changes in the ODI rankings.
Despite Babar Azam’s continued dominance as the No.1 ranked ODI batsman, two emerging Indian talents, Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan, have made remarkable progress, narrowing the gap on the Pakistani skipper.
Shubman Gill showcased his prowess by scoring an unbeaten 67* during India’s crucial match against Nepal. This performance propelled him to a career-high rating of 750 points, securing him the third spot in the ODI batter rankings. Gill’s impressive rise comes just a month before the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup kicks off.
Ishan Kishan also left his mark with a brilliant 82 runs in India’s clash against Pakistan in Pallekele. His outstanding performance earned him a new career-best rating of 624 points and propelled him 12 places up the ODI batter rankings, landing him at the 24th position.
Babar Azam, although he has had just one innings so far in the Asia Cup, reminded the cricketing world of his destructive abilities by smashing an exceptional 151 against Nepal. The inspirational Pakistan skipper maintains a firm grip on the top spot of the ODI batter rankings with an impressive total of 882 rating points.
In the second position, South African powerhouse Rassie van der Dussen narrowly holds onto his spot, with Shubman Gill making a significant one-spot jump in the rankings, becoming the latest challenger to the top duo.
Sri Lankan dynamo Charith Asalanka has also made a notable advancement, climbing eight spots to secure the 29th position in the latest ODI rankings for batters. Additionally, several international stars who are performing exceptionally well at the Asia Cup have shown considerable progress in the updated bowler rankings.
